Save Compatibility and F4 CG Unlock — Summer at Smile Café

During launch week, Summer at Smile Café shipped with numerous bugs affecting story flags, event triggers, and save data structures. The v1.1.4 patch fixed these underlying issues, but the fix changed how save files store progression data.

Mango Party officially confirmed: "Save files created before the fix are incompatible with the new version." Players attempting to load pre-patch saves on v1.1.4, v1.1.5, or v1.1.6 may encounter crashes, corrupted flags, or silent progression breaks.

Start a New Game. This is the only reliable way to play on v1.1.4 and later if your existing save was created before June 27, 2026. Your Steam achievements remain on your profile — only in-game save progress and gallery state are affected.

Before starting fresh: Note which routes and endings you completed so you can plan efficient replay. Use the route planner and tier list to prioritize remaining content.

After starting fresh: Press F4 on the main menu to unlock all CG scenes instantly. This developer-provided compensation restores your gallery without replaying every route.

The F4 CG unlock is an official compensation feature — not a cheat or third-party tool. To use it:

1. Launch Summer at Smile Café and reach the main menu (title screen).
2. Press the F4 key on your keyboard.
3. All 80 CG scenes unlock immediately in the gallery.

This feature was added specifically because the v1.1.4 save reset forced players to lose gallery progress. It persists in v1.1.5 and v1.1.6. New players who never had incompatible saves can also use F4 if they want instant gallery access, though this removes the collection challenge.

For legitimate CG hunting without F4, follow the CG unlock guide. Achievement progress for gallery milestones still requires actually viewing scenes in some cases — check the achievements page.

Version 1.1.6 added a related quality-of-life fix: the save button is now disabled when map movement is locked. This prevents creating saves in invalid game states that could previously cause dialogue boxes to freeze on screen when returning to the main menu.

Saves created on v1.1.6 should remain compatible with future minor patches, though always back up important saves before updating. The developer indicated stability improvements would reduce the need for disruptive save-format changes going forward.

New mechanics like night apartment events store their state within the updated save format — starting a New Game on v1.1.6 ensures you experience all new content correctly.

Separate from save compatibility, the v1.1.4 announcement warned about a Renee route softlock: after your camping trip with Renee, in the chapter where you invite her to your home, interacting with other female characters could freeze the game.

Workaround: Complete that chapter focusing only on Renee. Do not initiate conversations with other romanceable characters until the chapter advances. v1.1.5 and v1.1.6 include partial fixes, but cautious play is still recommended.
